General information
The highlight of the British Pain Society calendar
is the Annual Scientific Meeting. The Meeting is held over four
days and takes place annually at a different location throughout
the UK. Since 2003, the meeting has attracted between 900 and 1,050
attendees. The Meeting includes a comprehensive scientific programme,
a poster exhibition, a trade exhibition, sponsored commercial satellite
meetings and a social programme.
The aim of the Meeting is to encourage professionals from all disciplines
involved in the management of pain to exchange ideas and increase
understanding in all aspects of pain and pain management.
Scientific Programme
The Meeting’s unique structure is designed to ensure that
the scientific programme reflects the multidisciplinary nature of
the Society. It succeeds in doing so through a balance of plenary
sessions and numerous workshops and seminars. We have an internationally
renowned faculty contributing not only to the plenary sessions but
also to the more in depth workshops and seminars where exchange
of ideas and audience participation are key.
Special Interest Groups of the Society are also invited to organise
workshops at the Meeting as part of the scientific programme.
The Poster Exhibition
The Exhibition runs throughout the duration of the Meeting and provides
a means of new work and research to be presented to other professionals
working with pain.
The authors of the five best abstracts judged by the committee
are invited to present their work during dedicated Prize Paper Presentation
sessions. A prize will be given to the best presentations.
The Technical Exhibition
The Technical Exhibition continues to grow year on year. The exhibition
is primarily made up of pharmaceutical and equipment companies,
book companies and other pain organisations. The exhibition continues
throughout the duration of the Meeting.
Sponsored Satellite Meetings
Sponsored satellite meetings run alongside the Annual Scientific
Meeting. These meetings are very well attended and have proved so
popular with both participants and commercial companies, that they
have now become an integral feature at the Meeting. Attendance at
the satellite meetings is included in the registration fee. Full
details are announced in the run up to the meeting.
The Social Programme
To help delegates unwind after a day of seminars the Meeting offers
a full social programme. The Drinks Reception, included in the price
of the registration fee, provides a perfect opportunity for delegates
to meet and network over a drink in a more relaxed environment.
The last evening of the Meeting sees the British Pain Society’s
Annual Dinner – a highly enjoyable evening consisting of a
drinks reception, a three course meal and dancing.
The Annual General Meeting
For members of the Society, the Annual General Meeting is held in
the morning of the final day.
