RCoA Faculty of Pain Medicine

The Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists came into being on the 2nd April 2007. College Council appointed an Initial Board for four years until April 2011. The next phase, a Transitional Board, will then run for a further four years with two elected members joining the Board each year. The Board represents a wide range of medical pain constituencies, including training, examinations, research, SAS doctors and the British Pain Society as well as the acute, chronic and cancer sub-divisions. Five out of the eight members have been elected members of the Pain Society/British Pain Society's Council.

The Faculty is a part of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and its initial focus will be mainly concerned with the education and training of doctors. The Faculty has a role in the anaesthetics curriculum, quality assurance processes, training, consultations and publications as well as running events for Fellows, Members and trainees. 2010 will be an interesting year for the Faculty as it begins to realise its new three-year strategy. Please keep checking the FPM website for updates: http://www.rcoa.ac.uk/index.asp?PageID=853.

There are various categories of Faculty fellowship and membership, each with different criteria for admission, rights, privileges, obligations and subscription rates. Information can be located at the website link above.
