Membership of the British Pain Society is organised into six categories.
Ordinary Members
Scientists, medical practitioners or other healthcare professionals (whether in training or fully qualified) interested in the objectives of the Society shall be eligible to be admitted as an Ordinary Member of the Society.
Contributing Members
Contributing Members will be persons who are interested in furthering the objectives of the Society and will normally be organisations, including charitable or business organisations. Contributing Members of the Society shall not be entitled to vote at General Meetings of the Society, or vote or stand in elections for the Society’s Council or Executive positions.
Associate Members
Associate Members will be individuals who have an interest in the objectives of the Society but who are not eligible for admission as Ordinary Members of the Society. Associate Members of the Society shall not be entitled to vote at General Meetings of the Society, or vote or stand in elections for the Society’s Council or Executive positions.
International Members
International Members shall include anyone resident outside Great Britain and Northern Ireland. International Members shall not be entitled to vote at General Meetings of the Society.
Retired from Practice Member
This category is open to Ordinary Members who have permanently retired from all forms of active clinical practice, teaching, or research. Members who meet this criterion and wish to continue their association with the Society may transfer to Retired from Practice Member status. Please contact us to change your status.
Partially Retired Members
This category is open to Ordinary Members who consider themselves retired but who continue to be active in any form of clinical practice, teaching, or research. Members in this situation are not eligible for Retired from Practice Member status and should instead transfer to their membership to the relevant Band. Please contact us to change your band.
Honorary Members
Honorary Members shall be elected by the Council. Persons elected to Honorary Membership will have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the objectives of the Society.
