Extended Scope Practitioner in Pain Management
Band 8a: Starting Salary: £52,115 to £57,850

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Extended Scope Practitioner in Pain management (one post) within Guernsey Therapy Group Ltd (GTG). This will involve working as part of a new community pain team.

The main roles of the post include:

  • Extended Scope Practitioner Physiotherapist for pain management. Working with Pain consultants, Orthopaedic consultants, primary care and other members of the pain MDT.
  • Clinical Specialist in bio-psychosocial approach to pain management.
  • To co-ordinate and support the clinical education and clinical development in GTG’s Musculoskeletal team for complex/ chronic pain conditions.
  • To be able to assist in the development and delivery of the new community pain team.
  • To be an active participant in delivering a variety of pain management programmes in conjunction with other members of the pain team.

You will be expected to be an expert clinician in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with complex pain referred to the service, work at a level beyond the normal scope of a physiotherapist eg. requesting diagnostic imaging.

GTG is a private physiotherapy practice contracted by the States of Guernsey to provide physiotherapy services within secondary health care.

Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain Management
Band 7: Starting Salary: £38,055 - £45,355 BAR £46,908 - £50,172 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Pain management (one post) within the States of Guernsey. This will involve working as part of a new community pain team.

The main roles of the post include:

  • To provide pain management to patients with acute, sub-acute and chronic pain conditions within the Bailiwick of Guernsey.  The CNS Pain Management will work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the continuity of pain relief is provided that is holistic, effective and individualised to meet the patient’s need.
  • The primary responsibility will be to work with the nurse consultant in establishing a community based pain service and to work with patients within that service. To provide specialised patient centred care, education and advice using evidence based knowledge and skills to enable patients within the community pain service to manage their pain to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • To work independently / interdependently within the scope of professional practice in the specialty of pain management. This includes guiding the practice of pain management through education, support and supervision of staff.
  • To demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, participating in strategies and initiating change where appropriate to improve the quality of pain management services
  • To deliver relevant, effective and sensitive pain management to individuals and groups, as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Assess new patients and facilitate them in setting personal goals, and reviewing medications and pacing strategies. Devise, review and participate in delivering plans of care aimed at helping patients achieve their goals. Communicate effectively with the patient’s GP to facilitate a beneficial partnership in patient care.
  • To promote patient education and understanding of pain, rehabilitation and self-management strategies, on an individual basis and as part of the pain management or other treatment programmes. To develop educational materials where required and to be able to audit outcomes against established KPI’s
