About AMRC

The Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) is the national membership organisation of leading medical and health research charities in the UK.

Our membership

The British Pain Society is a proud member of AMRC. We adhere to AMRC’s principles of good research practice, including:

  • Peer review standards

  • Research integrity and transparency

  • Patient and public involvement (PPI)

  • Data sharing and reproducibility

  • Commitment to the 3Rs in animal research (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement)

Membership enables us to contribute to national conversations on health research funding and practice, and strengthens our ability to support the pain research community.

Our support for AMRC's statement on the use of animals in research

As part of our commitment to responsible research, the British Pain Society publicly supports AMRC’s statement on the use of animals in research.

Animal research continues to be essential in understanding pain and developing safe, effective treatments, where no alternatives exist. This work is carried out under strict ethical and regulatory frameworks.

Working together to advance pain research

Through our membership of AMRC, we benefit from access to:

  • Policy updates and briefings on research strategy and regulation

  • Expert guidance on research funding practices

  • Collaborative opportunities across the research charity sector

  • Tools to evaluate and report research impact

These resources support our mission to improve the lives of people living with pain through evidence-based practice, research, and education.
