IASP Editorial Assistant
The International Association on the Study of Pain (IASP) is the leading global organization supporting the study and practice of pain and pain relief. IASP brings together scientists, clinicians, health care providers, and policymakers from around the world in pursuit of their mission to bring relief to those who are in pain. IASP is seeking an Editorial Assistant to help ensure the smooth progression of all manuscripts submitted to IASP’s peer-reviewed journals – PAIN and PAIN Reports – through each phase of the editorial process.
Position Summary
The Editorial Assistant works closely with IASP’s Senior Managing Editor, volunteer leaders, editorial boards, peer reviewers, and the production team to facilitate, expedite, coordinate, and execute content for IASP’s peer-reviewed publications. This position reports to the Senior Managing Editor.
This is a remote, paid, full-time position. Applicants based outside of the United States are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
• Review all new and revised manuscripts, checking to make sure they are formatted according to the journals’ guidelines.
• Assign all new and revised manuscripts to the appropriate editor for review.
• Collect all required author forms, including author verification, IRB approval, and permission forms, as needed.
• Respond to authors’ inquiries regarding manuscript status.
• Support editors and the editorial team to ensure all parties have the information and skills necessary to contribute to the journals’ peer-review process.
• Assist authors in submitting their manuscript to PAIN and PAIN Reports.
• Provide support to reviewers, ensuring they are receiving invitations and can access manuscript files.
• Ensure smooth workflows and operations for both journals while meeting necessary standards and turnaround times.
• Provide quality control checks for all stages of the peer-review and post-acceptance workflows.
• Liaise with our publisher’s production staff, as necessary.
• Work closely with editors to communicate issues affecting day-to-day operations.
• Attend Editorial Board meetings and IASP Publications Committee meetings, along with any regularly-scheduled editor meetings.
• Maintain a database of author contacts and disclosures.
• Ensure timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of all projects.
• Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the content area (medicine, neuroscience, psychology, etc.) or publishing in general (English, journalism, communications, etc.).
• Strong scientific foundation with the capability to understand pain science.
• Exceptional command of verbal and written English.
• Strong focus on flexibility, ability to multitask, attention to detail, excellent organizational and time-management skills, good follow-up and judgment.
• Familiarity with academic writing and the peer review process.
Preferred
• Available to work during times at least partially overlapping US Eastern business hours (8:00-17:00 UTC-4).
• Experience with proofreading and copyediting.
• Experience with the Editorial Manager online journal management platform.
• Experience with publication, either as an author, editor, reviewer, copyeditor, designer, etc.
• Understanding of common reference styles, especially AMA.
• Familiarity with compliance issues and guidelines for medical and scientific publications practice (ICMJE, COPE, GPP3, etc.).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

National Pain Institute (NPI)
The NPI is being developed in partnership by Zinc Innovation Partners (ZIP), Arthritis UK and the University of Bath.
It is currently in a 12-month development phase - building the evidence base, the governance model and the funding case that will underpin the Institute's full launch by the end of 2027.
Working under the leadership of Professor Eccleston, along with ZIP CEO Polly Mackenzie and Chief Science Officer Rachel Carey, NPI are hiring three roles to lead this development phase. All three of these new roles are fixed-term for the development phase (approximately 12 months).

About the role
We are seeking a Paediatric Pain Medicine Specialist to join the multidisciplinary Paediatric Complex Pain Service at Starship Children's Hospital, New Zealand's premier tertiary paediatric facility. This permanent role offers flexible FTE options, with applications welcomed from both New Zealand and international candidates.
You will provide community-based outpatient care and complex inpatient pain management for children and adolescents with chronic and complex pain conditions. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to service development while making a meaningful difference to young patients and their families.
About you
We are looking for a collaborative and compassionate specialist with expertise in managing chronic and complex paediatric pain and experience working within an integrated multidisciplinary pain service. Applicants must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. FFPMANZCA or equivalent is preferred. Alternatively, you may be a vocationally registered Paediatrician, Paediatric Surgeon, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Anaesthetist with additional training and/or experience in pain medicine. Eligibility to work in New Zealand is essential.
