Call for Session Proposals Now Open: BPS Annual Scientific Meeting 2027

6th Oct 2026

The British Pain Society is delighted to invite proposals for parallel sessions and workshops at its 60th Annual Scientific Meeting, taking place on 20 April 2027 at the Crowne Plaza Glasgow.

Submission deadline: Monday 9 November 2026, 12:00 noon (GMT)

The ASM brings together healthcare professionals, researchers, educators and students to share developments and innovations in pain science and practice. This year's call is open and does not prescribe preferred topics. We welcome diverse and creative proposals across biological, behavioural, social and interdisciplinary approaches, particularly those showing how pain research can influence and improve practice.

Session formats

All sessions run for 80 minutes, with a maximum of three speakers. You can propose:

  • Symposium: up to three expert presentations of 15 to 20 minutes each, followed by a chaired discussion.
  • Workshop: short presentations of 10 to 15 minutes, combined with practical activities such as case studies, group discussion or hands-on exercises.
  • Round Table Discussion: a brief introduction of 15 to 20 minutes from one or two facilitators, followed by an open discussion with attendees.
  • Open Format Workshop: your own suggested structure, if none of the above fits.

What we are looking for

Proposals should be grounded in robust scientific or clinical evidence and show clear real-world application. We particularly encourage submissions that:

  • reflect the multidisciplinary nature of pain management
  • bring together presenters from different institutions
  • include early career clinicians, health professionals and researchers
  • incorporate lived experience perspectives or co-production
  • demonstrate translation from bench to bedside

Proposals will be reviewed on scientific quality, balance across disciplines, clinical and research relevance, and relevance to people living with pain. Reviewers will also aim to avoid duplication with plenary sessions, recent ASM sessions and EFIC content. Only six session slots are available, so not every proposal can be accepted. Unsuccessful proposals may be considered for another format, such as a poster, webinar or future education event.

Before you submit

The ASM is an in-person event only. All speakers are expected to present in Glasgow, with no hybrid or pre-recorded option. Session chairs, organisers and speakers are entitled to a reduced registration rate.

You will need a session title, type and theme, a session overview (up to 300 words), a statement of relevance to people living with pain (up to 100 words), three learning outcomes, and details of your chair and speakers. Incomplete forms will be automatically rejected, so please read the full guidance before starting.
