The British Pain Society, in collaboration with the Centre for Pain Research at the University of Bath, has launched a new interview series exploring the latest thinking in pain science and clinical research.

In this first episode, Professor Chris Eccleston speaks with Dr David Hohenschurz-Schmidt (Imperial College London) about bridging practice and research, improving trial methodology for complex, non-pharmacological interventions, and developing person-centred approaches to pain management.

About the speakers

Dr David Hohenschurz-Schmidt
Dr Hohenschurz-Schmidt is a clinical researcher at Imperial College London with a background in osteopathy and neuroscience. His work focuses on improving the quality and methodology of trials in physical and psychological pain interventions, aiming to enhance clinical relevance and patient benefit. He is the recipient of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Ronald Dubner Prize for the best paper by a trainee.

Professor Chris Eccleston, PhD
Professor Eccleston is Professor of Medical Psychology and Pain Science at the University of Bath, where he directs the Centre for Pain Research. He has published over 300 papers and three books, pioneering behavioural and digital approaches to chronic pain management. His contributions to the field were recognised with the 2018 IASP Ronald Melzack Award.
