Top-scoring abstracts present: Oral presentation abstracts announced at the 2026 ASM
29th Apr 2026
The British Pain Society is delighted to celebrate the four top-scoring abstracts selected for oral presentation at the 2026 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM), with Dr Ross MacDonald named as the winner.
Abstracts were submitted in advance of the ASM, with the four highest-scoring selected for oral presentation. These presentations were then assessed by a panel during the meeting, recognising the strength and quality of research shared across the programme.
The top-scoring presenters were Dr Ross MacDonald, Dr Maura McCarron, Mr. Gregory Booth, and Miss Freya Bunting. Achieving a top-scoring abstract is a significant accomplishment, and we congratulate all four presenters on this achievement.
Dr Ross MacDonald’s winning presentation: Adverse Childhood Experiences, and the Development of Chronic Pain: A Structured Life Course Modelling Approach in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children, examined how repeated exposure to adversity across childhood relates to chronic multi-site troublesome pain in early adulthood.
Dr Maura McCarron’s presentation: Online Pain Education for People with Chronic Pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis, explored the effectiveness of online pain education and its impact on pain-related outcomes.
Mr. Gregory Booth presented Maintaining physical activity after pain management programmes: a qualitative exploration of barriers, facilitators, and activity patterns, which investigated the challenges and support involved in sustaining physical activity after pain management programmes.
Miss Freya Bunting presented Post stroke pain: modulation of central and peripheral mechanisms, which examined molecular mechanisms underpinning post-stroke pain and the potential of carnosine to modulate key pathways.
Congratulations again to all four presenters for their excellent work and contribution to the ASM scientific programme and to our winning presenter - Dr Ross McDonald.
